Local legend is a story that is told about a specific place, community, or group of people. These stories are often about heroic journeys and great achievements. Many are also about the overcoming of adversity and other important life lessons. These are the stories that stick with us long after we turn the last page.
The first step to writing an engaging local legend is researching the history of a culture and region. Then, read collections of the most commonly agreed-upon legends from that culture. This will give you a good sense of what has already been written about and what is still unknown.
Once you have a strong foundation for your research, you can start to build your argument about the significance of the local legend in your paper. You can do this by using your research findings to craft an introduction that captures the reader’s attention and presents your thesis statement. The body of your paper should then weave together the local legend with historical facts and analyze its significance.
Lastly, your conclusion should summarize the key points of your argument and offer insight into any further avenues for study. By integrating local lore into your historical research, you will create a truly meaningful and insightful piece of writing.
Launched in 2020, the Local Legend feature is Strava’s way of rewarding dedication. Unlike the KOM, which is based solely on segment time, Local Legend status is awarded to the athlete who travels a segment the most over a rolling 90 day period. The winner will be rewarded with a Local Legend “Laurel” crown icon next to the segment on their activity page and on the Segment Details page. You can see your Local Legend status on the Strava mobile app and website by selecting the profile picture in the top navigation bar, choosing Segments, and then clicking the Segments tab.
